Leg Pummelling and Transitions
For the past week we’ve been working on the Craig Jones instructional on how to break legs with heel hooks. Now that we have a good feel for breaking mechanics, I just need to actually get into the actual submissions.
Solo drilling the leg pummelling, creating windmills with your feet while rotating the hips. This drill should help get better at fighting for inside leg position.
For the transitions, we’re learning how to go from the different heel hook positions. The names are hard to remember but the general ideas are:
- 50/50, good because you can easily enter it but its a symmetrical position, your opponent can easily heel hook you themselves.
- Single leg x is good because its also easy to enter and your feet are better protected than 50/50.
- Both feet inside, where one foot is planted to the ground and the other is planted to your heel. In this position you’re safer from getting heel hooked and your opponent is in real trouble.
- Then there’s the outside position where one foot is planted on the ground and the other is pushing your opponent away.
